What it is
A family-run Palestinian and Middle Eastern restaurant on Victoria Street North, serving Kitchener for fifteen years: hot and cold mezze, maneesh baked fresh, shawarma and falafel plates, family platters and a bakery counter, in a room where “family restaurant” is a description rather than a slogan.
Why locals rate it
Arabesque is the answer when someone asks where to eat well for the price of a food-court lunch, and the reason its parking lot is never empty. The mezze table — hummus, mutabbal, fattoush, warm bread — is assembled with the care of home cooking scaled up, the shawarma plates embarrass the late-night chains, and the family platters are the region’s best group-feed value. It’s also a community anchor in the fullest sense; the restaurant has raised tens of thousands of dollars for humanitarian relief through its dining room.
What to order
Build a mezze spread first, always. The Moe Plate and the falafel-shawarma combinations are the workhorse mains, the Levant bowls cover lighter appetites, and the maneesh — za’atar or cheese, straight from the oven — is mandatory. Finish with baklava and cardamom-scented coffee.
Insider tip
Family platters ordered a day ahead are the cheat code for hosting: a full spread for six to ten people, picked up hot, for less than a mid-range dinner for two.
Heads-up
It’s a bright, functional family room with takeout traffic flowing through — come for warmth and food, not candlelight. Evening service winds down earlier than the downtown restaurants.
