Don Julio Tacos & Tequila Bar
Downtown's tequila-soaked taqueria — street tacos, serious margaritas and the loudest good time on King West.

What it is
A Mexican taqueria and tequila bar on King Street West in downtown Kitchener: street-style tacos, loaded nachos and mains backed by a long tequila and mezcal shelf, margaritas by the glass or pitcher, and a room dressed in enough colour to make a February night feel like Guadalajara.
Why locals rate it
After Taco Farm’s demise, downtown needed a taco standard-bearer, and Don Julio grabbed the job with both hands. The al pastor and birria go well beyond the Tex-Mex baseline, the margarita program treats lime juice as an ingredient rather than a mixer, and the room runs at fiesta pitch on weekends — this is where downtown birthday tables end up, and where a quick dinner reliably escalates. It’s the fun-first pick on the strip, with food that holds its end up.
What to order
Birria tacos with consommé if they’re on; al pastor always. Order the margarita flight or a mezcal from the shelf’s upper half before defaulting to house lime, and split the churros even if you think you won’t.
Insider tip
Taco Tuesday pricing makes it the best-value night downtown, but it’s also the busiest — for the same menu with room to breathe, go Wednesday and you’ll get the patio table too.
Heads-up
On weekend nights the music and margaritas set the volume, and service can run cheerful-but-stretched when the room peaks. Not the spot for a quiet conversation — that’s precisely its job description.
