Gaslight District & Tapestry Hall
Cambridge's converted factory quarter — patios, a brewery taproom, an events square and the region's best free night out.

What it is
A redeveloped industrial quarter on the Galt side of Cambridge, where heritage factory buildings now hold restaurants, patios, a Collective Arts brewery taproom and Tapestry Hall — the landmark event venue at the district’s heart — all arranged around an open public square that hosts concerts, markets and festival nights through the warm months.
Why locals rate it
The Gaslight District pulled off what most “revitalization” projects only render: it actually feels alive. On a summer evening with live music on the square, craft beer on a factory-wall patio and the crowd flowing between venues, it’s the closest thing the region has to a European plaza night — and much of it costs nothing. The district’s event calendar does the heavy lifting (outdoor concerts, seasonal markets, watch parties), while the everyday version — a taproom pint under string lights against 19th-century brick — holds up with no programming at all.
What to do first
Time a first visit to a square event — the free summer concert nights are the district at full power — and orbit: a pint at the Collective Arts taproom, dinner on one of the patios, dessert wander through the grounds. Downtown Galt’s main strip, including the Thirteen building at Bankers Corners, is a five-minute walk across the river.
Insider tip
Check Tapestry Hall’s calendar as well as the district’s: the hall hosts everything from food festivals to art installations, and its glass-and-timber interior — built inside a former foundry — is worth seeing under any pretext.
Heads-up
The district’s energy is event-driven and seasonal — on a cold, programming-free weeknight it’s a handsome but quiet real-estate development. Check what’s on before making it the whole evening; pair it with downtown Galt when the square is dark.
