What it is
Tech-infused mini golf inside downtown Kitchener’s Tannery building: nine interactive holes themed around beer pong, roulette, air hockey and Plinko, played with LED-lit self-scoring balls that track every stroke automatically, wrapped in a full bar with craft cocktails, shareable food and weekend DJ sets. It’s run by the Bingemans entertainment family — their downtown play.
Why locals rate it
Downtown Kitchener has restaurants and bars in depth but was short on actual play, and Putt Social filled the slot precisely: a date or group activity that takes an hour, requires zero skill, and hands you a drink while you do it. The self-scoring balls quietly fix mini golf’s oldest argument (nobody keeps score honestly), the hole themes are gimmicks in the best sense — sinking a putt through a Plinko board is objectively delightful — and the room runs at bar energy rather than family-fun-centre fluorescence. As a first-date format it’s close to cheat-code status: built-in activity, built-in conversation, exit ramp after nine holes if needed.
What to do first
Play the nine holes as designed, then let the night decide: the bar and shareables are good enough to hold the table afterwards, and the games corner keeps a group circulating. Groups run up to six per round — bigger parties should book split tee times a few minutes apart.
Insider tip
Weekend evenings run on DJ-night energy and fill accordingly — book ahead and lean into it, or come on a weeknight when the course is walk-on and the pace is yours. The Charles Street transit hub and downtown parking garages are steps away; don’t drive circles for street parking.
Heads-up
Nine holes is a one-hour activity, not an evening’s entertainment on its own — treat it as the anchor of a downtown night rather than the whole itinerary. And on party nights, expect a bar’s volume, not a golf course’s hush.
