What it is

A two-in-one operation inside the former Imperial Bank building at Galt’s historic “Bankers Corners”, where Water meets Main. The main floor — Thirteen — serves elevated pub fare, Detroit-style pan pizzas and 21 rotating Ontario craft taps; up the stairs past the bar hides The Galt Club, a cocktail room with hand-tossed pizzas, shareable plates and live music. The address has fed Cambridge since 1982, when it opened as Café 13.

Why locals rate it

Thirteen gives downtown Galt something every heritage main street needs: a reliable, characterful all-rounder that works as lunch, date, pint stop or late-night second act without changing your postal code. The Ontario-only tap wall is a genuine commitment (not a token local line among the macros), the Detroit pizzas have their own following, and the Galt Club upstairs — cocktails designed in-house, costume parties, live sets — is the closest thing the city has to a speakeasy. Weekday “Old Galt Social Hour” keeps the locals loyal.

What to order

A Detroit pan pizza and whatever Ontario brewery you haven’t tried from the 21 taps. Upstairs, put yourself in the bartenders’ hands — the house-designed cocktail list is the Galt Club’s whole argument.

Insider tip

The social hour runs weekday afternoons with seriously reduced draught, wine and cocktail prices — time an early dinner around it and the bill drops a band.

Heads-up

The two floors have distinct personalities and schedules — the Galt Club keeps its own nights — so check what’s open upstairs before promising someone a speakeasy evening. Live-music nights get properly loud.
