Roux Bakehouse
Belmont Village's sourdough obsessives — bakery, café and coffee roaster in one, with pastry worth planning a morning around.

What it is
A bakery, café and coffee roaster on Belmont Village’s main strip running the full operation under one roof — naturally leavened sourdough breads, laminated pastries and cinnamon rolls out of the ovens, house-roasted coffee at the bar, and a morning queue that has become part of the neighbourhood’s architecture.
Why locals rate it
Plenty of bakeries buy good ingredients; Roux built a whole identity around fermentation, and you can taste the patience. The sourdough carries genuine depth, the croissants shatter the way laminated dough should, and the cinnamon rolls have achieved the local-legend status where people arrive early specifically for them. Roasting their own coffee closes the loop — pastry and espresso designed under the same roof agree with each other in a way outsourced beans never quite manage. It’s Belmont Village’s biggest draw, in a village that includes some serious competition.
What to order
A cinnamon roll while they last, a croissant for the bench outside, and a loaf of the classic sourdough for home — that’s the canonical first order. Coffee-wise, go espresso-based to taste the house roast doing its job.
Insider tip
Weekend mornings sell through the famous items shockingly fast — arrive within the first couple of hours or make peace with the second-choice pastry (which is still excellent). Janet Lynn’s Bistro is steps away at 677 Belmont, so a bakery morning doubles as reconnaissance for a dinner booking.
Heads-up
It’s a bakery first and a café second: seating is limited, peak-time lines are real, and when the day’s bake sells out, it’s out. This is a plan-around operation, not a wander-in-whenever one.
